Mobile shopping more popular than desktops
In a much predicted move by your good self many years ago, it appears that the humble desktop is slowly going the way of the dodo in online sales as well as general redundancy.
Video I produced in 2011 showing rise of mobile phones:
Sure we still need a high powered piece of kit for many applications such as video editing, music production, graphics and processor intensive jobs that the desktop is best at providing.
But what about the 95% of people who never need that kind of power? The answer, mobile phones and tablets will happily replace email, browsing and now shopping online.
So now more than ever it is paramount you have a mobile optimised e-commerce store that will aid those using your site to easily navigate and buy your stock.
More on the data
So the statistics highlighted show that the growth since 2010 is game changing for online retailers.
“Considering that as recently as 2010 mobile visits to e-retail sites accounted for less than 3% of traffic, this latest milestone represents staggering growth of 2,000% over the past four years.”
Mobile browsers start to identify mobile ready sites
I know from using sites that if they are not working well on my mobile I am off to another website that does offer a better experience, even to the pint now that Google offers a helpful icon next to search results to show if it is mobile optimised or not.
And in a bid to make that process less clunky and annoying browsers like Mercury for the iPhone offer a helpful mobile icon next to results that offer a mobile optimised experience.
If your website is not mobile optimised already surely now is the time to really think about it?
