Freelance Web Design Client From Heaven
It has been a great pleasure (as it usually is with 90+% of clients) to work with a new web design client who needed a website designing pronto, and with a carrot and stick approach I was tasked with delivering said freelance web project within a week (give or take a day).
The website in question was for the global leader for negotiation consultants, who are based in London, and so communication was of course always going to be a priority and part of the process.
What was great about this client was that they had a very clear vision of what was required. I am usually very good at taking hints and working with all clients to deliver what is required given minimal help but I must say that it is fantastic when a client knows what they want.
I admit to spending hours thinking of layouts, tweaking CSS, ensuring that these work well across browsers and devices; boring, tedious work that the client has no clue goes on, so it’s nice to be dictated to to some degree.
This is not to say that it was a simple ‘here is my tick list and some ideas of fonts and layouts now go do’ project, I was respected enough to be listed to in critical areas that I felt were instinctively wrong or via example.
We actually emailed over 140 times within a week and so communication was vital to the project, now if you think that I will have needed to reply and think about most of the messages we shared then you start to realise that I may have spent somewhere along the lines of 3-4 hours emailing in the last week, at £50/hour you start to realise where costs can be lost, however this detailed back and throw of information was vital to the perfection that was needed in the final result.
The importance of a dedicated person involved in the design process
And in all honesty it was great to have that dedicated person who had a vision explain what they were wanting.
