I am going to explode the SEO concerns of 95% of readers in my opening message to you all.
SEO is not just about bringing traffic to your website, it is about bringing traffic to your website + trust + relevance.
Like any quality project management team will tell you, you need to have certain things in place at the very beginning that are SMART: Specific, Measurable, Action-oriented, Realistic and Timely.
This helps all involved know where they stand, what needs to be done and what the goals and objectives clearly are from the off.
SEO stage 1
So with all my clients I start work at the beginning, and I say to them ‘what terms do you think you would benefit from being more visible for?’
They will give me back a list of keywords that they believe will help them gain more clients, I tend to agree with the majority of these and base their own expertise to some degree on my own methods of working out other keywords may also bring in new business.
I will specially look at long tail, highly convertible traffic and other niche areas that may have slipped the net.
I need to work out also what we have to work with and how we are going to structure content that is new and old to gain the bets results, often a whole new site redesign is preferable to utilise a CMS such as WordPress which has great SEO capability and which I am an expert in getting result from.
Content: What do you provide your visitors when they land on your website?
I am talking many things here; colour theory, layout, content, font choice, style of wording/words, give-aways, lead capture areas.
What do you really offer or try to provide visitors to your website and be honest, if you landed would it impress and give you what you were seeking?
The honest answers to these question will determine your conversion rate. And ability to SEO the pages in the 1st place.
Visibility: Where do you want to be seen and for what?
Conversion: The key metric to success
This is where a “great” SEO will truly start to shine, and I put myself in this bracket as I do all the right things a quality SEO should do plus I add value in places only a true expert can.
So when I take a look at my clients pages to be optimised I may say that your call to action is not good enough, working not right, placement incorrect or at least let us trial some things.
This will allow us to work on conversion optimisation as part of the general traffic generation strategy, as its conversion that actually is the key metric to success not traffic numbers.
SEO stage 2
Analytic and reporting are vital to any SEO campaign, I set up webmaster tools, analytics and goals and conversion systems to work out what is going on and if we are on track in success with the work of SEO.
The data gleaned from regular analysis and sifting through the huge amount of data is illuminating and can really help the client and I work out where to head next or what to capitalise on.
SEO is no longer a boring dark art, at its heart it is about giving value and ensuring that you code and tag and describe this value in as many ways as possible to users and search engines.
The list of what I actually do is extensive and I will be posting a video of my method soon where I can explain in person the minuscule detail I take to ensure my SEO service is among the worlds top class SEO offerings which it undoubtedly is.
