My digital marketing experience
So you need a new website, branding (including logo design, business cards, brochures, adverts, posters…) SEO or PPC, you perhaps Googled a term such as ‘freelance web designer‘?
Everything you see in my portfolio was written (copy writing) produced, promoted and designed by me, literally everything.
I admit to being a bit of a freak.

And I honestly mean that, as I know exactly what it feels like to procure a new website, video, SEO/PPC and many other digital marketing products/services.
I am first and foremost just like you if you are a business owner or manager, I know exactly what it feels like managing and trying to communicate what you do positively to others.
I have also been the marketing manager of two very large global companies delivering key online strategies involving web design, SEO, PPC, marketing automation, analytics, video marketing, animation and email marketing and also been a key part of one of Europe’s leading agencies.
So I know what it feels like to search for a service and hope you find the right provider at the right price.
As a straight talking professional Yorkshireman who splits his time between the UK and Europe, I can tell you that my approach aims to tick all the boxes that leave you nervous and unsure.
Why am I freelance?
I want to first explain why I have chosen the freelance path for a fair bit of my regular work.
Funnily enough I chose part-time freelance work as I value my freedom, so this path works well for me, the other half of my working life I spend managing huge digital campaigns and projects for a well respected London based digital marketing agency.
I never outstretch myself and have a clear freelance business model that I am happy with in all aspects.
I take on 1-2 clients per month to allow me to deliver projects within around 1-3 weeks.
One of the big advantages for me is that I often get to work on projects where I have a clear communication channel between client and myself, bringing a wealth of experience to each piece of work I undertake.

Over the last 8+ years I have worked for various agencies and on many highly successful digital projects and sometimes communication failings can lead to issues, I have always said that the fewer involved (capable) in the process of design and development the better, with minimal stress for all involved.
Time to sell myself I guess!
Most of my clients have been burnt in the past and will testify that working with me is a breath of fresh air and how they hoped a client/designer/marketing professional relationship should work.
Please don’t tear your hair out with poor quality work and language issues, associated with ‘pile them high, sell them cheap’ style companies that provide a poor service all round, and draw you in on promises and a low price.

I am not the type of web designer who just says yes to what a client wants, I am a well rounded digital marketing expert with years of knowledge up my sleeve, and I instinctively know if an idea is good or not and if other options may be worth considering.

Strategy/project scoping options document:
I know that some of my clients are unsure what they really seek when they first contact me, or the options available.
So why not invest in an initial consultation with me for £150 and I will help you truly understand your options and put a detailed proposal together for you explaining the options and benefits.
I will knock 100% (£150) of this fee off any services you later take me up on.
You will receive:
Project scope – What we discuss will be broken down and developed as an easy to understand detailed strategy to achieve your goals.
Project targets – After we know the main objectives and goals we need to know how to achieve the targets and what success will look like.
Project options – What will you choose to obtain your goals and objectives? I will provide you with a number of services and the reasons why they should be considered. The options may involve; brand awareness, copy writing, article writing, strategy, targeted traffic, increased overall traffic, analytics, reporting, syndication, marketing automation, PPC, SEO, blogging, content marketing, video animations/marketing/seo or a mix of these.
Benefits of a professional consultation:
This will in the end save you money, time and get the results you want but are not sure how to achieve.
I have to charge this nominal fee as I put a lot of effort into project proposals and you are buying my experience also, this is worth a lot in time saving and general scoping options that will arise from this initial exercise.
Fact: Usually takes about 3-5 hours of communication and research to produce the strategy options document from my end.
I honestly make most clients gasp at areas that they have not considered and really should in order to make their online project work to its maximum.
Again if you just want a website and happy to leave it like that, fine, I deliver many of these kinds of projects also.
I am not the cheapest, but I am worth every penny, and we all know that you get what you pay for. I must say as a procurer of websites in the past the one thing I wanted more than the cost to be lower was to see the ability and passion of the provider, this is what sees a project through to the end, and paying more sometimes gets you that piece of mind, that is the case with me.
My style of working
It is important that you know how I like to work.
Over the last 8+ years I have come to realise I have my own style and that is roughly speaking termed a form of ‘agile development’.
In simple terms, I like to work fluidly with a set agenda but with room for change at any point from a clients request or communication.
This means that I can work with clients who want little input and those who want to change their mind a lot throughout the project.
For this reason the contract you sign will have a quoted fee but changes beyond what have been priced will be billed at an agreed rate, allowing for project creep.
This allows me to work and still earn money for my effort and you to change your mind as much as you like without our working relationship and the project being negatively impacted.
I am honest and upfront with all areas of my work.
For instance, I will tell you that part of my business model is to offer my services at a very affordable level so I make a sale.
And as I require to host your website as part of my service on my quality servers I will make a little bit of extra money on hosting, support and security/updates every year which helps me stay in business and you have a fantastically qualified, friendly person to deal with and small but growing team to help you when you need it.
What is more, my hosting, email and support packages are still cheaper than other companies, but they rarely deliver the all round quality I offer, the proverbial win-win really,
My hosting package also gives you emails, security updates, access to me and my support 24/7 with usually less than a 4 hour response time dependent on time zones.
2 hours of my time as part of hosting and support each year
And as part of what I believe to be added value, and in keeping with 8+ years of past experience of over 70 projects, I offer you 2 hours of my time as part of the hosting package every 12 months, so any amendments or little bits that need doing such as adding or changing emails or updating plugins that have become insecure will be mainly paid for with that time included with the hosting.
Otherwise I will be emailing you to ask permission (and billing you £50 per hour) for things that you really should just agree with such as security updates, plugin updates, email account additions or deletion etc etc.
So this way we have factored in a couple of hours per year to cover these things and I charge per 15 minutes, with communication being part of that time.
e.g if I see a flag that a plugin needs updating my process will be:
a) Read issue – assuming important for security or functionality proceed to b)
b) Login to site
c) Find the update
d) Apply the update and put site into maintenance mode for a brief period
e) Check all works fine (sometimes things break at this point)
*maybe 20 minutes
f) Assuming all is OK I will notify you by email of what work has been done and what credits have been used out of this allocation per year.
*maybe 5 minutes
Overall (as I round up) you will have used 30 minutes of your 2 hour allocation for the above issue, this type of issue may occur once to ten + times per year, usually I only update if absolutely necessary though, so factor in about 4 times which is why I offer the 2 hour included as it just saves everyone time and hassle.
Saving money on all areas of your business is not the route to guaranteed success, and I never want a client to feel duped, my prices are what I feel offer the right balance between value and quality. Too cheap and I will not survive in business and you will lose your dedicated expert, too expensive and you will possibly look elsewhere.
